Issued PCPD statement on LinkedIn's use of personal data for training generative AI models

On 15 October 2024, the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) welcomed LinkedIn's decision to pause the use of Hong Kong user's personal data for training generative AI models. This decision follows concerns raised by the PCPD regarding LinkedIn's default opt-in setting, in response to which LinkedIn confirmed it would suspend data usage while addressing the issues. PCPD highlighted that it will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the privacy of Hong Kong users is protected.
