Description

Introduced Bill regulating the Protection of Children in Digital Environments and Social Media including content moderation

On 1 October 2024, the Bill on the Protection of Children in Digital Environments and Social Media (Bill no. 2/2466) was submitted to the Grand National Assembly. The proposal aims to reduce risks children may face online, protect their personal data, and promote digital literacy. The Bill establishes content moderation requirements to enhance children's safety on digital platforms and social media. It mandates the implementation of age verification systems to prevent children under 13 from accessing inappropriate content and restricts their ability to create accounts. Additionally, platforms must use AI-supported content moderation tools to identify and remove harmful content. Default privacy settings for child users are to be set at the highest level, and location-sharing features must be disabled by default. The Bill also requires the establishment of technological infrastructures to detect and combat cyberbullying while providing parental control tools to monitor children's usage and daily activity. Furthermore, platforms are encouraged to offer educational content to improve children's digital literacy and safe internet usage.
