Turkiye: Introduced Bill regulating the Protection of Children in Digital Environments and Social Media including age verification requirement

On 1 October 2024, the Bill on the Protection of Children in Digital Environments and Social Media (Bill no. 2/2466) was submitted to the Grand National Assembly. The age verification requirement, as outlined in the Bill, mandates that digital platforms and social media companies implement systems to verify the age of users accessing content aimed at children. These systems are designed to ensure that users under the age of 13 cannot create accounts on such platforms. Additionally, the platforms must take steps to confirm the age of users, safeguarding children from inappropriate content and enhancing their online safety.
