Announced MDES statistics on blocking illegal and counterfeit social media pages and URLs

On 10 October 2024, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) announced enforcement actions as part of its measures to combat online crimes. Between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2024, the MDES blocked 150’,425 illegal social media pages and URLs, representing an 8.51-fold increase compared to the previous year. Among these, 62’,213 cases involved online gambling, 51’,088 were related to online fraud or distortion, and 37’,124 concerned other illegal activities. The MDES enhanced its inspection and monitoring processes by integrating data with other agencies to improve efficiency. Public cooperation via the 1111 hotline played a key role in identifying illegal activities, and the MDES urged the public to remain cautious of fake news and online scams.
