Description

Launched Clean Up and Rectify Violations in Online News Information Services Initiative

On 3 October 2024, the Central Cyberspace Information Office launched a three-month campaign to regulate online news services, focusing on eliminating illegal practices and enhancing the quality of online news content. The campaign targets issues such as fake news, exploitation of media, impersonation of official news outlets, unauthorised news operations, and falsification or selling of service licenses. This includes hindering the dissemination of news with exaggerated headlines that do not match the content, preventing utilising media to coerce others into providing money, prosecuting unauthorised use of titles such as news or report, and combatting the forgery and sale of internet news service licenses. Local authorities are tasked with improving regulations, ensuring news services are properly licensed, and prioritising high-quality content.
