G7: Adopted G7 data protection and privacy authorities statement on AI and children

On 11 October 2024, the Group of Seven (G7) Data Protection and Privacy Authorities issued a statement addressing the challenges Artificial Intelligence (AI) poses to the privacy and rights of children and young people. The statement urges AI developers and stakeholders to implement age-appropriate safeguards, ensure privacy by design, and adopt transparent AI models. The statement encourages implementing protection against risks such as online manipulation, discrimination, and misuse of personal data for AI training. It also calls for promoting digital literacy within education systems and emphasises the importance of international cooperation for data protection authorities to safeguard children's rights in AI-driven environments.
