Adopted US-UK Joint Statement on Child Online Safety

On 10 October 2024, the governments of the United Kingdom and the United States of America jointly issued a joint statement concerning online safety for children. A joint working group will be constituted with the objective of addressing existing concerns and ensuring the implementation of age-appropriate safeguards across online platforms. The stated intention is to ensure that providers of online platforms implement age-appropriate safeguards and measures to protect children from exposure to harmful content. This encompasses the tackling of sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment, cyberbullying, and content that incites or promotes suicide, self-harm, and eating disorders. The parties express a commitment to uphold fundamental values, including democracy, human rights, privacy, and freedom of expression, while promoting a safer internet environment for children.
