Canada: Closed consultation on CRTC Code of Conduct Respecting Bargaining in Relation to Online News Content

On 7 November 2024, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) closes a consultation on the CRTC Code of Conduct Respecting Bargaining in Relation to Online News Content. The Code aims to enforce fair bargaining practices between digital news intermediaries and eligible news businesses under the Online News Act. The consultation seeks inputs from news businesses, digital platforms, industry associations, and the general public on ensuring transparency and fairness in bargaining processes, the definition of good faith bargaining, the prohibition of unfair behaviours during negotiations, and certain prohibited provisions.
