Germany: Issued press release on State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony establishment of Artificial Intelligence unit

On 30 September 2024, the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony announced that it has established a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Unit, led by Dr. Silke Jandt, to monitor and ensure the lawful use of AI technologies in line with data protection laws. The unit will collaborate with public and private entities, provide guidelines, support research projects, and raise awareness of data protection risks associated with AI. The aim is to promote responsible AI use while safeguarding citizens' rights during the digital transformation.
