Description

Implemented Student privacy: online personal information bill (AB 801)

On 1 January 2025, the Student privacy: online personal information bill enters into effect. The bill applies to operators of internet websites, online services, applications, or mobile applications that handle personal data of preschool, prekindergarten, or K–12 pupils in California. It introduces exceptions to data deletion requirements for national assessment providers holding only standardised test results and requires operators to delete a pupil’s data upon request from the guardian, education rights holder, or pupil, if the pupil has been unenrolled for at least 60 days, with documentation of unenrolment.
