Description

Adopted Expansion of Validated End User Program to include data centers

On 30 September 2024, the United States of America's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the Department of Commerce, adopted a new order expanding the Validated End User (VEU) program to encompass data centers. Under this program, U.S. exporters can now ship designated items to pre-approved entities under a general authorisation, streamlining the process and reducing the need for multiple individual export licenses. The program's vetting process ensures that only data centers committed to the highest security standards gain facilitated access to advanced U.S. technological innovation. According to the regulator, this action aims to bolster U.S. national security and promote export control compliance within the realms of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) development, as well as the semiconductor industry.
