China: Closes consultation on Cybersecurity Standard Practice Guidelines for Academic and Scientific Service Platforms including cybersecurity regulation

On 14 October 2024, the Secretariat of the National Cybersecurity Standardization Technical Committee closes a public consultation for the 'Cybersecurity Standard Practice Guidelines - Data Security Requirements for Academic and Technological Service Platforms (Draft for Comments)'. The document sets out standard practices for data processing by academic and scientific service platforms, and provides key definitions for categories like open and non-public data. It outlines that platforms should establish secure and open sharing mechanism for open data, while also complying the proper requirements data collection, storage, and processing. Non-public data should be treated as important data and is therefore subject to a series of heightened security requirements.
