On 18 September 2024, the Artificial Intelligence Act (HB 10944) was introduced into the Philippine House of Representatives. The Act would create the Philippine Artificial Intelligence Board (PAIB) and task it with ensuring the development, research, application and use of AI systems, ensure compliance with the Act and, in case of non-compliance, impose and collect fines and penalties, conduct investigations. Furthermore, the Act would require the PAIB to maintain a central database of AI companies and laboratories in the Philippines, including the name of the company, any violations and other relevant information. Furthermore, the Act would prohibit the use of any AI systems that would cause unnecessary, unjustifiable and indiscriminate moral or pecuniary damage to individuals. The Act would also establish penalties for any person violating the Act. The Act would enter into force fifteen days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in any newspaper of general circulation.
