Thailand: Opened consultation on Draft ETDA Notification regarding Al Sandbox

On 30 March 2023, the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) published the draft Notification regarding Artificial Intelligence (Al) Sandbox and opened a public consultation until 13 April 2023. In particular, the ETDA has proposed the creation of an AI Innovation Testing Center (AI Sandbox) in Thailand to provide a dedicated space for testing and developing AI technologies in a controlled environment. This initiative addresses the current lack of facilities and legal frameworks for structured AI testing. AI developers can apply for testing permission by submitting detailed project plans, which will be reviewed based on criteria such as feasibility, safety, and impact on quality of life. The ETDA will oversee the projects, with the authority to mandate adjustments or terminate tests if safety or legal issues arise. After testing, participants must submit a final report.
