Philippines: Closed PCC investigation into Greenfield over alleged abuse of dominant position

On 17 March 2022, the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) concluded its investigation into Greenfield Development Corporation (Greenfield) concerning allegations of abuse of dominant position in a condominium development in Mandaluyong City. The case, initiated under Section 15 (b) and Section 15 (i) of the Philippine Competition Act, focused on Greenfield’s alleged prevention of market entry by another Internet Service Provider, Globe, potentially restricting competition for fixed-line internet services. The Commission's decision to dismiss the Statement of Objections was based on the lack of substantial evidence to prove any concrete acts by Globe that would constitute a barrier to market entry or acts that prevent market growth.
