Italy: Issued GPDP statement on monitoring agreements between publishers and OpenAI

On 26 September 2024, the Italian Data Protection Authority issued a statement that it is closely monitoring the agreements that RCS MediaGroup and GEDI Gruppo Editoriale have signed with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. The publishing companies operate, among other things, major news publications in Italy. Garante states that it reserves the right to evaluate the potential adoption of more specific initiatives by the parties to the agreements.
