Implemented Artificial Intelligence Bill (AB-2885)

On 1 January 2025, the Artificial Intelligence Bill (AB-2885) is implemented, amending several sections of the Business and Professions Code, Education Code, and Government Code. The Bill alters the definition of AI in relation to aspects of technological policy within the state. The core of the Bill is the establishment of a comprehensive definition of AI, described as an engineered or machine-based system with varying levels of autonomy that infers from received inputs how to generate outputs to influence physical or virtual environments. The new definition is relevant to various government technology policy reviews and reports.
