Republic of Korea: Adopted PIPC Guide on data subject's rights concerning automated decision making

On 26 September 2024, the Personal Information Protection Commission of Korea adopted a guide clarifying the rights of data subjects regarding automated decision-making by institutions using AI. The guide sets out what constitutes automatic decisions and contains guidance for organisations regarding the additional steps they should take to provide transparency in automated decisions, including publishing decision-making criteria and procedures on their websites. The guide also sets out that individuals should have the ability to request explanations for automated decisions.
