Opened CNMC consultation on order on on self- and co-regulation systems for age-based content ratings

On 25 September 2024, the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) initiated a public consultation regarding the implementation of an age verification requirement for audiovisual content. This move is in alignment with the updated General Law on Audiovisual Communication, aiming to bolster self-regulation and co-regulation mechanisms to safeguard minors from unsuitable content. The consultation targets both traditional audiovisual communication services like radio and television, as well as video-sharing platforms and significant internet and telecom service providers. Stakeholders, including audiovisual operators, consumer associations, and researchers, are invited to contribute their insights and proposals until 28 October 2024, with the objective of establishing a co-regulation agreement for the protection of minors.
