Description

Implemented Malaysian National Digital Identity (NDID) program

On 1 December 2023, the National Digital Identity (NDID) program was implemented by the Government of Malaysia. NDID provides secure digital identification and verification for Malaysian citizens and permanent residents. It supports various online services across sectors, including e-government, banking, healthcare, and e-commerce. The NDID integrates with key institutions, including Bank Negara and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), requiring biometric identification and multi-factor authentication to reduce fraud. It complements MyKad, the Malaysian identity card that enhances digital transactions without replacing physical ID. The program also requires public and private service providers to perform biometric KYC checks, with regulators like MCMC overseeing its implementation.
