On 20 September 2024, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia adopted the National Guidelines on AI Governance and Ethics. The Guidelines seek to ensure the responsible use of AI technology among various stakeholders, including end users, policymakers, and developers. The guidelines emphasise the principles of fairness, reliability, privacy, inclusiveness, transparency, accountability, and pursuing human benefit. The Guidelines set out voluntary responsible AI practices for the three groups of stakeholders identified as end users, policymakers, and developers, including detailing how the principles can be implemented in various ways by these stakeholders. The Guidelines are intended to ensure trusted and responsible AI development in line with other global initiatives, for example by UNESCO, the OECD, and the European Commission.
