On 9 November 2021, the Artificial Intelligence Development Act (HB 10457) was introduced into the Philippine House of Representatives. The Act would establish the National Center for Artificial Intelligence Research (NCAIR) and tasks it with developing policies and conducting research concerning the development of AI technologies. The Act would further require the National Innovation Council as established under the Philippine Innovation Act (RA No. 11293) to prioritise the development of AI. Beyond that, the Act would require the State to regulate the AI ecosystem, accelerate the innovation with AI, improve digitisation and infrastructure and ensure adequate education in the realm of AI. The Act would enter into force within fifteen days after its publication in at least two newspapers.
