On 24 May 2024, the California Senate passed the crimes regarding the distribution of intimate images Act (SB 926). The Bill focuses on expanding the legal framework around crimes related to the distribution of intimate images and disorderly conduct. In particular, the Bill makes it illegal not only to distribute real intimate images but also to create and distribute digitally altered or photo-realistic images that depict intimate body parts or sexual acts of an identifiable person where the representation appears authentic, likely to cause serious emotional distress, and actually causes such distress.
