Opened investigation into Sky Betting and Gaming for alleged unlawful data processing

On 17 September 2024, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) initiated an investigation into Bonne Terre Limited, trading as Sky Betting and Gaming, concerning the processing of personal data without consent through the use of advertising cookies. The investigation was prompted by a report from Clean Up Gambling, which provided insights into the data flows within the online gambling industry, including the data processing practices of Bonne Terre and a number of its partners. The report's findings included an allegation that Bonne Terre transferred substantial quantities of personal data to third parties without securing the informed consent of the data subjects. The investigation will concentrate on the compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation in relation to the sharing of personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
