On 28 August 2024, a consultation was opened for the draft Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024. The draft Rules set out the conditions under which the temporary suspension of telecommunication services can be authorised for public safety or public emergency purposes, as provided in s.20(2)(b) of the Telecommunications Act, 2023. Specifically, the draft Rules require such a suspension to be issued through a written suspension order, set out requirements for the provision of reasons and scope, including a maximum duration of 15 calendar days, and provide for supervision by a review committee. The consultation period ends on 27 September 2024, 30 days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
