Announced lift of ban on TikTok over alleged negative impact on social harmony and social environment

On 10 September 2024, the Nepalese Telecommunications Authority ordered all Internet Service Providers and mobile service providers to lift the ban on TikTok imposed since 13 November 2023 after finding the platform of spreading hate speech and creating a negative social atmosphere in Nepal. The order follows TikTok’s commitments to register as a business, appoint a local contact, promote tourism, support digital literacy, and moderate content in Nepali languages.
