Philippines: Adopted NPC Advisory No. 2021 - 01 on Data Subject Rights

On 29 January 2021, the Philippine National Privacy Commission (NPC) adopted the Advisory No. 2021 - 01 on Data Subject Rights. The Advisory defines general principles for the interpretation of the Advisory and the handling of personal data in general. The Advisory provides detailed information on each right of a data subject, namely the right to be informed, the right to object to data processing, the right to access one’s personal data, the right to rectify incorrect or inaccurate information, the right to erase or block data processing, and the right to data portability. The Advisory further goes on to define the limitations of each right, such as in the case of research or a legal investigation.
