Issued ruling in Investigation into Mediahuis regarding unauthorised use of cookie banners

On 6 September 2024, the Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) issued a ruling in its investigation into media company Mediahuis regarding unauthorised use of cookie banners. The investigation was based on allegations that, on a number of websites, Mediahuis did not provide a "reject all" button and used deceptive design features. In its decision, the DPA gives Mediahuis 45 days to undertake corrections, being liable to a daily fine of 25'000 per failure to correct and per website thereafter.
