Signed Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law

On 5 September 2024, the Council of Europe announced that Andorra, Georgia, Iceland, Israel, Norway, the Republic of Moldova, San Marino, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union signed the Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law. The Convention aims to ensure that AI systems are consistent with human health and the environment, and socio-economic aspects, such as employment and labour. The Convention is open for signature to member States, non-member States which have participated in its elaboration and by the European Union, and for accession by other non-member States. To enter into force, five ratifications including at least three member States of the Council of Europe are required.
