Adopted Standards for Intelligent Connected Vehicles

On 2 September 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced the adoption, by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China, of three mandatory national standards aimed at enhancing the safety and security of intelligent connected vehicles. These standards, effective from 1 January 2026, include the GB 44495-2024, GB 44496-2024, and GB 44497-2024. GB 44495-2024 sets requirements for automobile information security, covering external connections, communication, software upgrades, and data security. It applies to vehicles with electronic control units. GB 44496-2024 establishes requirements for automobile software upgrades, including user notifications, safety, and failure handling. It applies to vehicles with software upgrade functions. Lastly, GB 44497-2024 defines requirements for autonomous driving data recording systems in vehicles, focusing on data recording, security, and crash resistance.
