China: Issued Compliance evaluation of Alibaba's rectification process for alleged abuse of dominance in e-commerce platform services market

Description

Issued Compliance evaluation of Alibaba's rectification process for alleged abuse of dominance in e-commerce platform services market

On 30 August 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) issued an evaluation of a three-year rectification process by Alibaba Group Holdings Co., Ltd. This process began in April 2021 when Alibaba was penalised for monopolistic practices in China's online retail platform service market. Over the three years, Alibaba Group has ceased its monopolistic practices, standardised its business operations, and significantly improved its compliance management systems. The SAMR states that it will continue to guide Alibaba Group towards further compliance and innovation-driven development to ensure a competitive and fair e-commerce platform economy in China.
