Description

Issued notice to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snap, Reddit, Discord, and Twitch requesting information on age verification measures

On 4 September 2024, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner issued a notice to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snap, Reddit, Discord, and Twitch requesting information on the policies and measures implemented by the platforms to ensure they enforce their own age limits. The eSafety Commissioner aims to obtain information on the number of minors using these platforms, the range of their ages, and the measures implemented to prevent underage children from gaining access to the platforms, in order to ensure appropriate protections for children who are allowed on the services. The companies have 30 days to provide their responses to the eSafety Commissioner.
