The Directive (EU) 2019/770 on certain aspects concerning contracts for the supply of digital content and digital services is approved by the EU Parliament and the Council of EU. The Directive sets out rules concerning contracts for the supply of digital content and digital services. In particular, the Directive establishes that the minimum 2-year guarantee against goods that are faulty or do not work as advertised is extended to goods with a digital element (e.g. smart devices), digital services (e.g. streaming services) and digital content (e.g. e-books). Furthermore, the Directive specifies the remedies that apply when providers do not conform with contracts (traders' liability). The EU countries must apply the rules of the directive by 1 January 2022.
