United States of America: Rejected California Artificial Intelligence Research Hub Act

On 31 August 2024, the California Artificial Intelligence Research Hub Act (SB 893) was rejected as it failed to pass before the conclusion of the 2023-2024 legislative session. The Act proposed the establishment of the California Artificial Intelligence Research Hub (the hub) within the Government Operations Agency. The hub would have aimed to facilitate collaboration between government agencies, academic institutions, and private sector partners. The Bill also would have mandated the development of a plan to determine the feasibility of standards for determining digital content provenance.
