Signed Canada-US Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Enforcement of Laws Protecting Personal Information in the Private Sector

On 28 August 2024, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the US Federal Communications Commission regarding information-sharing and enforcement cooperation in relation to the protection of personal information in the private sector. The Memorandum sets out the parties' intentions in providing each other with mutual assistance and information exchange, including by designating contacts for Requests for information. At the same time, the parties acknowledge potential limitations on assistance and the need for confidentiality in relation to shared information.
