Australia: Issued ruling in ACMA investigation into 10 Play streaming service provider for alleged breach of gambling advertising rules

Description

Issued ruling in ACMA investigation into 10 Play streaming service provider for alleged breach of gambling advertising rules

On 26 August 2024, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) announced that it had issued a ruling, stating that 10 Play, a streaming service provided by Network Ten, breached gambling advertising rules by displaying gambling ads during prohibited times in two live-streamed sports events on 14 October 2023. In particular, the breaches occurred during an A-League Women's match and a Socceroos friendly against England, both shown during times when gambling ads are restricted. Network Ten has received a formal warning from ACMA, marking its first violation of these rules. The breach was attributed to an error in manual coding, and Network Ten has since improved its processes to prevent future occurrences. Finally, ACMA has warned that further enforcement action could be taken if similar breaches occur again.
