On 21 August 2024, the Presidential Decree amending certain articles of Customs Law No. 4458, specifically Articles 62/1 and 126/1-(b), enters into force. The amended Presidential Decree includes an increase in tax rates for goods delivered via mail or fast cargo. The tax rate for goods from the EU rises from 20% to 30%, and for goods from other countries, from 30% to 60%. In addition, if the goods are listed under the Special Consumption Tax Law, an extra 20% tax will apply. The amendment also adjusts the declaration limits for fast cargo companies, lowering the minimum value for goods to EUR 30. The changes are aimed at addressing concerns over the quality of imported goods and the impact on local businesses. The amendment will enter into force on 21 August 2024.
