Germany: Adopted BSI IT security label for mobile devices

On 14 August 2024, the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) adopted the new product category "mobile devices" for its IT security label, allowing consumers to easily identify devices that meet a certain level of IT security. In particular, the label aims to ensure that smartphones and tablets, which store and process personal data, offer adequate protection. The BSI provides specific guidelines (TR-03180 A) for manufacturers to follow, including monitoring and addressing vulnerabilities, user control over data and sensors, and transparency in the applications' permissions.
