Adopted Japan-Costa Rica Memorandum of Cooperation in information and communications sector including on AI and digital infrastructure

On 8 August 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications of Costa Rica adopted the Memorandum of Cooperation in the Information and Communications Sector (ICT). The Memorandum aims to enhance collaboration in the ICT field, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI). The parties committed to cooperating to promote governance frameworks, such as the Hiroshima AI Process, open and secure digital infrastructure with a focus on diversifying 5G vendors, and disaster prevention. The Memorandum aims to encourage joint initiatives between the two countries to promote the advancement of technology and infrastructure.
