On 9 August 2024, the “Cartagena de Indias Declaration for Governance, the construction of AI ecosystems and the promotion of AI education in an Ethical and Responsible manner in Latin America and the Caribbean” was signed by the governments of 16 countries of the region (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Surinam, and Uruguay). The Declaration states the commitment to promote AI governance frameworks and ecosystems for a safe, inclusive, ethical, and responsible development of AI.
