Indonesia: Announced Ministry of Communication and Information ruling blocking access to 32 sites providing credit conversion related to online gambling

On 8 August 2024, the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) announced the blocking of 32 websites that provide credit conversion or cashing services to IDR linked to online gambling. The action, based on Government Regulation No. 71 of 2019, is part of a broader effort to address online gambling due to its harmful effects on society. Furthermore, Kominfo plans to regulate and limit daily phone credit transfers to prevent their use in gambling transactions. Finally, Kominfo emphasises the need for comprehensive and consistent efforts, requiring financial institutions and telecom providers to actively participate in this initiative.
