On 30 May 2024, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Regulation Bill was rejected automatically following the dissolution of Parliament. The Bill would have defined AI as technology enabling the programming or training of a device or software to perceive environments, interpret data using automated processing, and make recommendations, predictions or decisions. The Bill would have introduced AI principles such as safety, security and robustness, transparency and explainability, fairness, accountability and governance, contestability and redress. Furthermore, the Bill would have established an AI Authority. The AI Authority would have ensured that AI is taken into account by regulators, analysed gaps in AI regulation, coordinated an AI regulation review, monitored regulation effectiveness and AI risks, accredited AI auditors, and taken over other functions.
