China: Opened consultation on TC260 National Standard on Network Security Technical Identification - Password Authentication System and Related Security Technical Requirements

On 2 August 2024, the Secretariat of the National Cybersecurity Standardization Technical Committee of China (TC260) opened the public consultation on the National Standard on Network Security Technical Identification - Password Authentication System and Related Security Technical Requirements until 1 October 2024. The Standard applies to the design, construction, use, and testing of password authentication systems in cybersecurity, encryption technology, and related sectors. The Standard imposes several requirements, including independence of intellectual property, consistency with existing national cryptographic system standards like the SM2 algorithm, and practicality, considering the current state of cryptographic technology and national policies. The consultation seeks inputs from stakeholders on the technical requirements, including system composition, functionality, security, key generation services and registration services.
