On 31 July 2024, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) launched a one-month Clear and Bright Special Campaign to address fake and vulgar phenomena in online live streaming. The campaign focuses on five main issues. It addresses the creation of false scenarios to induce purchases, the exploitation of minors and disabled persons to attract followers, and the staging of fake social hotspots. It also targets false claims of professional expertise in fields like finance and healthcare used for improper marketing. Additionally, the campaign tackles sexually suggestive content and illegal promotions in live streams, aims to stop vulgar language, incitement, harassment, and other disruptive behaviours, and works to prevent the sale of counterfeit goods and the fabrication of data from creating false popularity. Furthermore, local cyberspace departments are required to strengthen anchor management, regulate user behaviour, and optimise recommendation mechanisms to ensure the healthy development of the industry.
