United Kingdom: Closed consultation on OFCOM Online Safety Information Guidance

On 4 October 2024, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) closes the public consultation on Online Safety Information Guidance. The guidance is addressed to technology firms and third parties involved in the online safety sector, including those providing user-generated content platforms and other digital services. The consultation seeks to assess Ofcom's power in the exercise of its information-gathering powers under the Online Safety Act 2023. The consultation seeks inputs on gathering information on auditing technology firms' safety measures, inspecting algorithms, responding to coroner's requests, and, in exceptional cases, accessing UK premises to examine equipment. The consultation sets expectations for compliance and outlines potential enforcement actions for failure to respond accurately, completely, and in a timely manner to information notices.
