Republic of Korea: Announced Korean Fair Trade Commission inquiry into competition in the AI market

On 1 August 2024, the Korean Fair Trade Commission announced it would examine the domestic generative AI market to identify potential competition and consumer issues through a fact-finding survey. The survey focuses on 50 major domestic and foreign businesses that develop and sell AI-related products and services, including foundation models, to domestic customers. The examination aims to ensure continued innovation and fair competition in the AI market, as well as enhance predictability for AI market participants and create a more competitive and consumer-friendly market.
