Thailand: Published Annual report 2023 on the National AI Strategy

On 1 August 2023, Thailand's National AI Strategy, spanning from 2022 to 2027, outlining a comprehensive action plan for AI development was published. Produced by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the report is managed by the National Science and Technology Development Agency and the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board and underscores the significance of AI across economic, industrial, and healthcare sectors in Thailand, stressing the necessity for AI readiness to keep pace with global advancements. The government approved the national AI strategy in 2022, marking a significant step forward. The action plan involves developing AI ethics guidelines, governance frameworks, and a central AI service platform to facilitate AI deployment across sectors. There is a strong emphasis on fostering a supportive environment for AI startups and innovation. Human resource development is a critical component of the strategy, featuring extensive training programs to develop AI professionals at various levels. The Super AI Engineer project is a key initiative aimed at equipping individuals with practical AI skills through workshops and real-world problem-solving activities. Looking ahead, the report outlines plans for the continuous development of AI technologies and infrastructure, targeting sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, finance, and public safety. Enhancing AI governance and ethics, along with international collaboration in AI policy development, are also pivotal aspects of the strategy. By 2027, the goal is to create an integrated AI ecosystem in Thailand, driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
