On 13 May 2024, the Law on the protection of minors in the digital dimension was introduced in the Senate of the Republic of Italy. The Law applies to providers of information society services operating in Italy regardless of their place of establishment. The Law requires providers to verify users' ages and implement secure age verification measures, with details of adequate measures to be determined by regulatory authorities. The Law also provides that contracts with providers made by individuals under fifteen are void unless authorised by a parent or guardian, and revenue from the use of minors' images must be managed under strict guidelines, including parental consent and depositing funds into accounts dedicated to the minors.
