Issued CPSC decision against Amazon for hazardous products sold online by third-party sellers

On 30 July 2024, The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a decision against Amazon concerning the sale of defective products listed on its website. In particular, the CSPS determined that Amazon was a considered a “distributor” of over 400,000 hazardous products listed on Amazon.com and sold by third-party sellers using the Fulfilled by Amazon program. Under the decision, Amazon is considered responsible for the sale of these products and has been ordered to remove the products from commerce and submit to the CPSC a proposed plan to notify consumers.
