On 24 July 2024, the Australian Treasury initiated a public consultation on the draft Treasury Laws Amendment Bill 2024: Acquisitions, which would introduce reforms to the country's merger control regulations. The proposed legislation aims to amend the existing framework by, among other things, enabling the setting of targeted mandatory notification thresholds, introducing a phased merger review process, and reforming the regulator's enforcement powers and process. The reform also aims to enable the effective review of serial acquisitions. The consultation closes on 13 August 2024.
